Which brings me to my conclusion, where the review goes full circle and sums everything up! This is not a Modern Warfare or Battlefield, there are plenty of much better shooters out there. There are lots of Ego Boosts in this stage. These unlocks include more babes, (A French Maid, Gym Woman, Oriental and The Twins) Pool Tables, Drinks Machines, Pinball Machines and general other mini game style things to play at your own pleasure, but overall this is just another novelty and really doesn’t provide much more than a few cheap laughs! The only good side to this is that your XP goes towards unlocks for your online penthouse. Online multiplayer won’t really have you coming back for more! I believe it was somewhat of an afterthought on the game, with graphics that look like they’ve been lifted straight from Quake 2 and some awful game modes. I especially enjoyed the set pieces where you were shrank to be a mini Duke and got to drive around in a toy RC buggy! Gore is high in this game, as you would expect! With limbs, blood and guts flying from start to finish and at one point even shit! It has a few driving bits which again I think is another little parody of the driving bits that aren’t really required in the high end FPS’s, all delivered with Dukes trademark one liners it is, other than being a tad frustrating, a right laugh overall. The humiliation finishers of some of these ‘end of level baddies’ are pretty funny, with a kick in the balls or some other form of punishment that will give you a childish giggle! Each Chapter ends with a boss battle, which once you find out which weapon to deplete their health bar with prove quite easy to kill. After the first few deaths and some poor save points you’ll soon find yourself getting quite frustrated with it, I resisted the urge to throw the controller at the television a few times. So in a nutshell this is exactly what Duke sets out to do! You’ll soon find that even on normal the enemies are bloody difficult to kill, especially later on in the game where wave after wave come at you. So with the premise of Tits, Ass & Kicking Ass the storyline is thus… Ahem… The aliens that Duke defeated back in 1996 are back and they’re stealing Earth’s women… just the good-looking ones, and Duke wants them back. Smut is another big part of the Dukes repertoire and you certainly won’t be disappointed here either! Duke has his babes (what I suppose is the main plot to the story! We’ll get to that soon!) These take the form of scantily clad twins, (tongue in cheek) Mary & Kate Holsom, who giggle, kiss and gyrate throughout the game, random naked chicks, the girls in Dukes strip club and the unlockable girls in your online penthouse (but once again, that’s something for later!) Gameplay is completely over the top and high octane from start to finish, with big weapons and even bigger enemies to battle. It even takes the piss out of the genre on a whole with references spotted throughout, at one point you even run into Master Chiefs Helmet! It maintains all of the charm (if that’s the right word) from the Dukes last encounters and the fact that it doesn’t seem like a polished product just adds to this. This is Duke Nukem after all a game that pokes fun at itself from all angles… and this has always been the case. You won’t find a solid story line and you won’t find multiplayer modes that you’d want to play over and over again! Many would argue that the 14 plus years it’s taken to finally come to the shelves has been a wasted time and that perhaps they should have let the Duke bow out gracefully back in 1996 rather than let him fall from grace! It would seem that everything else in the genre has showed progress on every level and DNF has been left in the past… But is this a bad thing? I’d have to shock you all and say No it’s not a bad thing at all! You won’t find high-end graphics… in fact this game wouldn’t look out of place on the original Xbox. So was it worth the wait? There are arguments on both side of the fence here! Duke Nukem Forever does not follow suit to even the most basic shooters on the market these days. Supposedly a follow up to Duke Nukem 3D back in 1996 which was a smash hit for 3DRealms, Duke Nukem Forever was originally announced in 1997 and after a plethora of changes in developers, gaming engines (Quake II, Unreal and Doom3), Millions of dollars, Pulled Plugs on the project and over a decade later it has eventually shocked everyone by finally being released! Duke Nukem Forever is one of the most highly anticipated games in history, not because it has the best plotline, graphics or gameplay but because it has developed somewhat of a cult following. After almost 15 years and one of the most unsure development processes we finally get to hail to the King once more.
